Teeth Whitening - Bleaching of discoloured teeth
Bleaching is a simple, painless way to make your teeth whiter. Although teeth are very hard, the outer layer - the enamel has microscopic pores that discolour over time, from smoking and food colouring. Sometimes discolouration can occur during early tooth formation from antibiotics and fluoride consumption.
Home Bleaching
The bleaching gel applied in a transparent tray fits snugly over teeth, and can be used during the day or while sleeping. The process takes from several days to a couple of weeks.
Office-bleaching
This bleaching technique is fast and effective. The gel is applied on all front teeth and laser activates the whitening process. It is done in one or two visits.
All kinds of bleaching can cause post-treatment sensitivity and some amount of gum irritation. These symptoms disappear within one to three days after completion of treatment. The whitening lasts for 6 months to 1 year, depending on your personal habits such as smoking, pan chewing and drinking coffee and tea. No one can really predict how much lighter the teeth can become with bleaching. Every case is different.
Tooth jewellery
Tooth crystals can be bonded to teeth to enhance an already perfect smile. The procedure is painless and it does not damage the tooth structure. There are no side affects. Skyce crystals are available in blue and white. The jewel can be removed and fixed easily by a dentist and it takes just 10 minutes!
Tooth-coloured fillings
These are bonded fillings used to improve the appearance of a cosmetic defect found in the surface of the tooth, to replace tooth structure that has chipped away or broken, or to repair damage caused by tooth decay. This filling can also be used to re-surface the entire front side of a tooth to improve its colour shape or position.
Diastema Closure or Closure of spaces between teeth
A diastema is a space between front teeth. These spaces can be closed by using tooth coloured filling materials or by orthodontics. If the diastema is moderate and all other teeth are well aligned, composite filling is recommended. But to close large spaces of the diastema, orthodontics is highly effective. Filling requires only one visit to the dentist while orthodontics may take 12 to 18 months to completely close the diastema.
Enamel contouring is the re-shaping of natural teeth to make them esthetically pleasing. It is an excellent procedure for immediate transformation of a smile. It is less expensive, the least invasive cosmetic treatment, and gives immediate and lasting results with no pain during the procedure. It is indicated for giving a pleasing appearance to fractured, chipped, extruded or overlapping teeth.
Malformed teeth
Not all of us have naturally good teeth. Developmental disturbances can result in malformed teeth.
Microdontia is a condition in which teeth appear smaller than normal. In the generalized form all teeth are involved. In the localized form only a few teeth are involved. The most common teeth affected are the upper lateral incisors and third molars.
Macrodontia is a condition in which the teeth appear larger than normal.
Dental flurosis occurs because of excessive intake of fluoride either from water, toothpaste or other sources. Excessive fluoride can cause yellowing of teeth, white spots, pitting or mottling of enamel. Consequently, the teeth become unsightly.
Conical teeth or peg laterals are small cone shaped teeth next to the middle two teeth (central incisors).
Porcelain Veneers
These are wafer thin shells of porcelain, which are bonded on to the front side of the teeth and excellent cosmetic solutions for teeth that are stained, chipped or slightly mal-aligned. Compared to composite veneers, porcelain veneers look more natural and they do not stain. On the downside, veneers are fairly expensive and can be prone to breaking, cannot be patched or repaired, and can only be replaced. The main advantage is that only minimal tooth substance is removed to bond a veneer on the tooth surface. Veneers are the first choice when correcting minor irregularities or colour of any front tooth.
