He is the first Indian to have obtained his research Doctorate-PhD in Implant Esthetics from the University of Groningen, Netherlands. 2. Dr. Gunaseelan Rajan

Dr. Gunaseelan Rajan is an accomplished Maxillofacial Surgeon and Implantologist who serves as the Medical Director of Rajan Dental. He has earned a tremendous reputation as a dentist and is also a high-profile researcher and academician who has been published repeatedly in international peer-reviewed journals. He has developed Rajan Dental into a multi-specialty modern institute of world-class dental care, building on the founder Dr. B. P. Rajan’s core values of trust, expertise, and care.

He has been instrumental in bringing advanced treatment techniques and clinical concepts to India such as:

      • Computer-based planning and ‘Nobel – guide’ surgical technique
      • ‘Teeth-in-an-hour’ concept (where implants and artificial teeth are fixed in 1 hour)
      • Zygoma implant technique

He holds both Medical and Dental degrees followed by a Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a PhD and more recently a DSc Honoris Causa. He is also a highly sought-after international speaker and has presented his findings at the world’s most prestigious dental conferences.

He is also father of three boys, a passionate golfer and avid reader of non-fiction.

Esthetic Oral Rehabilitation:

Smile designing is a holistic, interdisciplinary approach towards esthetic enhancement. When reorganizing the existing occlusion, it is of utmost importance to achieve a functional and stable final result.

The process involves gathering the relevant information, organizing it, visualizing the end result based on the findings and then making an action plan to achieve the desired results. . An optimal treatment plan is split into small processes and sequenced in appropriate order to arrive at the desired end result.

The lecture will lay emphasis on how smile designing concepts need to be applied across all fields of dentistry for partial or full mouth rehabilitation to achieve long term success.

      • Practical approach to “ design smiles” .Principles and workflow
      • Understanding occlusion and its relation to smile design
      • Tooth preparation design for anterior veneers
      • Biomimetics, principles of light, illusion and color
      • Multiple layering techniques and the use of pigments and tints for Direct veneers
      • Understand and identify occlusal problems and know when to treat and when not to treat
      • TMJ movements, muscle function and treatment of TMJ disorders
      • Deprogramming the joint to reveal occlusal prematurity
      • Concept of vertical dimension and to re-establish patients vertical by integrating esthetics and phonetic function in the overall treatment planning
      • Treatment sequencing and step by step treatment execution in various cases with different treatment approaches
      • Facebow transfers and programming a semi-adjustable articulator
      • Minimally invasive approach towards full mouth rehabilitation
      • Multidisciplinary approach towards full mouth rehabilitation
      • Prep- less and minimal prep designs for Thineers, Veneers, Onlays
      • Cementation protocol
      • Aftercare and maintenance

Cases done in various clinical situations-implants, natural dentition, combination of natural teeth and fixed implant restorations, natural dentition and removable implant prostheses will be shown

PATIENT DEMONSTRATION:

1- Smile analysis, charting, fabricating a treatment plan, face bow records and transfer to semi adjustable articulator, Interocclusal records.

MODEL HANDS ON:

1- Step by step – veneer preparation designs

2- Composite layering technique of Hi-Definition direct composite veneers, finishing and polishing

3- Smile Design mock up for 1 case

GROUP HANDS ON:

1- Charting observations, analyzing smiles and chalking out treatment plans for 2 cases

2- Face bow records and transferring the information on semi adjustable articulator
